A few months ago, a friend of mine gifted to me the top 1000 albums of all-time. Here is a link to the list. It includes updates made in 2012: http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=399
It was an amazing gift. The list has many great albums, but also some that are head scratchers and others I had never heard of. I’m enjoying making my way through all of the albums. This got me to thinking, what would my lists look like. I worked in retail record stores and the record industry throughout much of the 1980’s, from 1982-1990. I have an incredible knowledge of music from the 80’s. Working in record stores and independent record stores, I often heard artists and albums first. I’m going to start with the year 1982 and work my way both forwards and backwards. I’m starting with my top albums by year and then my top singles. I think I’ll define top as 1) important to me, 2) important to other artists, and 3) great music. I’m sure many of you will disagree with my lists, I hope you all do, but maybe you’ll listen to something for the first time or listen to something you haven’t listened to in a long time.
Be on the lookout over the next few weeks for my lists to begin. I’m very excited to start this.
